7 week ultrasound

Just a couple of updates on the tots!

Yesterday, Paul had the day off, and we had another ultrasound to measure the growth and heartbeats of our little miracles.

Here are their stats as of 7 weeks, 2 days:

Twin A:

baby measuring: 7.5 mm, about the size of a lentil bean (was 2.1 mm last week)
gestational sac: 13.7 mm (was 6.5 mm last week)
heart rate: 132 bpm (was 104 bpm last week)

The round part at the top, is not the head, it's the yolk sac.
The gestational sac is the black oval that the baby is in.
The black area on the left is what my doctor is calling a "separation",
which I discuss later.

Twin A's heart, beating away...such a miracle!!
Thank you, Lord!!

Twin B:

baby measuring: 8.33 mm (was 2.4 mm last week)
gestational sac: 19.3 mm (was 14.6 mm last week)
heart rate: 144 bpm (was 110 bpm last week)

Both babies are growing well and their heartbeats are right on track. Their gestational sacs are still on the small side, but my doctor is not concerned since their heartbeats and fetal growth look very good.

Their still appears to be, what my doctor calls a "separation", which is most likely the cause of my earlier bleeding/spotting. He says that as the pregnancy progresses, this fluid from the "separation" should decrease in size. Until then, I may experience more spotting and if I do, I'm to be on bed rest again. Well, I started having more spotting today, so I'm on the couch again. I'm handling the onset much better this time, but it is still unsettling. We're placing these miracles in the hands of the Lord and trusting Him for the best outcome possible. We both feel a lot of peace regarding their health and are truly resting in God's all encompassing arms :)

I had my blood drawn yesterday to check my progesterone and estradiol levels and those look great, too :)

Progesterone: 59.1
Estradiol: 1978

Still doing the nightly intramuscular injections, but we have been told we can decrease the amount that is being injected. I go in next Tuesday for blood work to check these levels again. Our next peek at the tots will be in 2 weeks, on Thursday, July 8th. I'll be 9 weeks, 4 days by then and the babies should be visibly moving by then! My doctor said they will actually start moving at about 8 weeks, which is on Sunday. If all looks good at this next ultrasound, I will be graduating to my OB.

We would love your continued prayer for our babies and for this "separation" issue to resolve quickly. We are grateful for each day the Lord gives us with these little ones. Each week feels like such a victory!! Your comments and prayers keep our faith strong and encourage us deeply! Thank you for taking time to read, pray, and support us on our journey to parenthood.

We love you,
Gretchen, Paul, and the tots ;)

  1. Congrats on your twins!!! Great heartbeats, great measurements! So exciting!!! Praying for the separation to get better and the spotting to stop. I spotted a ton with this pregnancy too (we are 20 weeks with twin girls), and it is incredibly unsettling, but so far everything has turned out just fine. You have been so blessed, and I wish you a very happy and healthy rest of your 9 months! I look forward to following your journey=)

  2. It's amazing to see this and remember my own u/s around that time while Riley is asleep on my lap and Dylan is snoozing away next to me in his bouncer. It's humbling :) Thank the Lord you are experiencing this miracle! Next year you will be holding your babes and will be amazed that they were once so tiny!!
