Paul says, "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 3:13-14
Heartache in 2009 could easily keep us from straining ahead and seeking God and what He has for us in the future. This verse is an encouragement for us to PRESS ON in 2010, regardless of what did or didn't happen in 2009.
I know God's plans for us are good. We have so much to be thankful for, sometimes I feel greedy for asking above and beyond what God has graciously provided. I never want our requests and petitions to outweigh our gratitude and praise. Which is why I want Paul and I to spend some time reflecting on how the Lord has blessed us and what we have learned through our trials this past year.
As one woman has said, "find the gold."
"Find the Gold. When prospectors would pan for gold, they would scoop up dirt, rocks, sand and silt, and look for what had value. If God has allowed certain events in your life, it must be because it has value. Perhaps it was a character quality it brought forth in you, or an attribute of Himself He wanted to reveal to you. Without become bogged down in the dirt and silt of your past, dig down and look for the gold. Keep what is good and let the rest go."
I'd like to share with you what Paul and I come up with after we have a chance to talk. Feel free to share your "gold" with us, too.
Cheers to 2010 and all that the Lord has in store for us!
Love,
Gretchen & Paul
