Post Surgery Update

I made it through another laparoscopy and my first hysteroscopy! Apparently, I had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia and broke out in hives, but I didn't feel a thing :) I'm doing better today then I was yesterday. After surgery, I was pretty nauseous, so I had to stay longer than expected. Once I got home, the nausea had worn off and I was just brutally sore. I will take sore any day over nausea. I've been taking vicodin every 4 hours to help with the pain and drinking lots of water. Unfortunately, I was not able to go to the concert last night, but Paul was able to bring one of his guy friends. He said the concert was awesome. I'm happy that at least one of us was able to go!

So, here are my results from surgery...

Great news! The inside of my uterus looks very normal and healthy. No signs of polyps or adhesions anywhere. He decided to do a mild scraping (D & C) of the inside to try and improve the implantation site for our embryos. Our bodies to a fantastic job of healing areas that have been injured, so by Dr. Stoelk roughing the inside up a bit, I should have a new, cushy lining soon.

The not so good news is that my endometriosis has gotten significantly worse and he is now classifying it as stage 4 (the worst). There was quite a bit on my bladder, pelvic walls, and both ovaries along with some scar tissue. My doctor cleaned it up with a laser again and said it should heal up nicely, as well. He also found a peculiar nodule attached to my ligament that he removed. He thinks it is probably a leftover corpus luteum (egg sac after you ovulate) that somehow found it's way out and then attached itself to one of my ligaments. Weird. He is sending it to pathology so they can biopsy it and tell us what it is. Both Paul and I watched the DVD of my surgery and we thought it kinda looked like it could be a tumor. Hopefully it's nothing. I'm not going to worry about it though. It's all in God's hands.

Paul asked Dr. Stoelk if December would be too early to transfer a few more of our embryos and he said that it might even be better to do it sooner then later. Since he only does IVF related procedures every other month, if we skipped Dec. we would need to wait until February. So, for right now, we are thinking December...the most wonderful time of the year.

Dr. Stoelk will call me sometime today to check on me and answer any questions I might have. I will also go in for a post-op appointment next week sometime.

Until then, I will be resting on our couch with my blanket and the warmth of our fireplace. Ah, life is good. We are pleased to have some answers and look forward to December.
