Ain't nothing going to break my stride

We are one step closer to our FET! Happy to be checking some things off our list :)

Today, Paul came with me to my "trial embryo transfer" and doppler ultrasound. My instructions were to come to this appointment with a partially full bladder for the trial transfer. Sounds easy enough, right? You would think so. This is the 5th time I have had to have this "partially full bladder" business and it is so much harder than you think! I am a perfectionist, so I worked pretty hard to follow protocol to a T. I made sure to empty my bladder an hour before my appt. and then drank fluids (about 1 liter) until the transfer, but some things are out of your control. Things like your appointment getting pushed back half an hour while your bladder continues to grow with each passing minute. I thought my bladder just might explode. To make matters even more memorable, my dear husband, the loving empathizer that he is, mentioned that he also really had to "go", too, as I was anxiously waiting for the doctor to come in, but thought he shouldn't say anything ;) Thanks for your support, honey. I wonder if God will allow him to empathize with me during labor, too? :) Good times.

So, the trial transfer went fine, other than the bladder pain. Dr. Matteri was able to slide the catheter in rather easily and thread it up into my uterus without any complications. I did experience some minor cramping and a small pinch, but he warned me just before it happened.

After the trial transfer, I was able to empty my bladder, Hallelujah! The doppler ultrasound was really interesting. It measures the amount of blood flow that you have coming into the uterus. Apparently, all is well in that department! He asked me if I was an athlete and I tried not to LOL, so I just laid there, LQTM (if you don't know what LQTM means, you need to watch Demetri Martin.) Not exactly the time or place to be laughing, if you know what I mean. He said, typically women with great blood flow to their uterus are active runners or athletes of some sort. Does he really need to know that the extent of my workouts of late have been my sister and I skyping to "Jillian Michael's 30 day shred" DVD? I left it at "I'm not a couch potato, but I don't work out consistently" and called it good.

I know I've mentioned before that infertility has taught me more than I ever wanted to know about my body. So much, that I can tell when something isn't quite right. I started having little cramps and twinges in my left ovary about a week ago. I told Paul several times that it felt like I had a cyst developing. So, I asked Dr. Matteri to check it out and sure enough my left ovary has a large 1 inch cyst in it. The good news is, my doctor is not concerned and everything is still on track. Woo-hoo! Thank you, Lord! For all of you 80's music fans, I found myself singing this familiar tune:

"Aint nothing going to break my stride
Nobody´s going to slow me down
Oh no, I have got to keep on moving"

For those of you that don't know or care to know that song, you get the gist :)

I hope all of you had a meaningful Easter celebration with loved ones. Paul and I had a great weekend with his family in Spokane. It's amazing to think back on how different my life is because of Easter
...to be continued.

  1. LOL - I remember the partially full bladder thing - just wait until you get your pregnancy ultrasounds and have to have a full bladder lol! Luckily there aren't many that you have to have a full bladder - most of mine I had to have an empty one :) And when you are ready for an OB (if you don't want to go back to your old one) You should really see mine - Dr. Michael Davis, he's wonderful!

Yay for getting a move on all of this! You will be pregnant in no time!!
